PEN The Netherlands

PEN The Netherlands was founded in 1923, so it is one of the oldest PEN centres. PEN The Netherlands has not the intention to consider itself as THE Dutch organization of writers, because there are other organizations which represent the interests of Dutch authors. We also do not have the aim to promote literature in general terms. Nowadays we focus on the struggle for freedom of literary expression. We try to co-operate with other organizations who have similar aims, for instance Amnesty International, and we are especially involved with the work of the Writers in Prison Committee of PEN International.
